Nigerian artist Luwa.Mp4 today announces the release of o-YO¡. A fearless Alternative/Afro-Fusion project that fuses the raw energy of punk rebellion with the rich, rhythmic heritage of Yoruba culture. Released via FREEQUENT, the project was recorded in Ibadan and features mixing and mastering by 3CB on the lead single.
The project comprises 2 singles. The Kas-Beats inspired ‘Atako’ and the vibrant high-tempo party starter ‘Yorubrat’. Blending distorted guitars, traditional Yoruba percussion, and unapologetic lyricism, ‘o-YO¡’ emerges as both a sonic experiment and a cultural statement. The title itself, a playful, stylized Yoruba exclamation, captures the project’s spirit of disruption and joyful defiance. Luwa.Mp4 uses the record to challenge rigid expectations in music and society, proving that authenticity and audacity can coexist powerfully.
“This project was born out of my never-ending reality, constantly having to prove that you don’t always have to follow the norm and you can find people that genuinely resonate with that,” says Luwa.Mp4. “A brat is someone that seems annoying but most times, the masses are annoyed at our audacity.”
