Emerging Ghanaian artist HKR Manuel has released his captivating new single “Palmwine”, a soulful Afro-Fusion track that captures the dizzying, all-consuming feeling of being lost in love. The song marks a triumphant creative milestone for the innovative artist, born from a moment of professional rejection that ultimately fueled his artistic growth.
“Palmwine” embodies the intoxicating high of obsession, where love blurs the lines of reality. “It’s that sweet spot where affection becomes addiction,” HKR Manuel explains. “You know it might not be rational, but you willingly surrender to the experience.”
The track’s creation story is one of resilience. In December 2023, HKR Manuel entered a beat contest judged by industry heavyweights including Appietus, Altra Nova, and Juls. While some judges showed interest, Juls’ harsh rejection proved crushing at the time. “That moment lit a fire in me,” the artist recalls. “Months later, joking with producer Khxnbeats, I vowed to create something better than anything Juls had made – and name it after his Palmwine Diaries project as a playful homage.”
The resulting track showcases HKR Manuel’s signature blend of Afrobeats, Hip-Hop, and Alternative influences, with highlife-inspired instrumentation that honors Ghanaian musical traditions while pushing contemporary boundaries. What began as a personal challenge evolved into one of the artist’s most authentic creations to date.
“I’m genuinely thankful to Juls now,” HKR Manuel admits. “Without that rejection, this record wouldn’t exist. It pushed me to dig deeper into my artistry.”
